Hi there, and welcome to The Happy Homeroom—I’m so glad you’re here!
My name is Jocelyn, and I’m a third-grade teacher, a mom of two, and the voice behind this blog. Whether you’re a parent trying to support your child’s learning at home or just looking for practical, encouraging resources, you’re in the right place.
💛 Why “The Happy Homeroom”?
As both a teacher and a mom, I know how tricky it can be to balance school expectations with real life at home. I created this space to make that connection easier. My goal is to answer the questions you really have:
- How much should my child be reading at home?
- What do I do if homework feels like a battle?
- How do I help my child build confidence in math or writing?
The Happy Homeroom is here to give you clear answers, teacher-tested strategies, and encouragement that meets you where you are.
✏️ What You’ll Find Here
Every week, I’ll be sharing posts about:
- Helping with homework (without the tears!)
- Encouraging a love of reading
- Managing screen time and creating balance
- Building life skills through simple routines
- Supporting emotional growth and independence
- Staying connected to your child’s classroom and learning journey
These posts will come from a unique perspective: part teacher, part mom, and always real.
🌟 A Little About Me
I’ve been teaching elementary school for over a decade—from 3rd to 5th grade, in public schools across North Carolina. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University and a Master of Science in Industrial & Organizational Psychology from Eastern Kentucky University (which just means I love understanding how people work and learn together!).
I’m also a National Board Certified Teacher and proud mom to two kids: Adelaide (middle schooler!) and Asher (third grader!). My husband teaches 8th grade science, so between us—we live and breathe school life.
