Avoid the Summer Slide: July’s Smart at Home Kit Makes It Easy

July Learning Bundle

The July Smart at home Kit is here! If your summer mornings have started blending into late nights, and you’re finding snack wrappers in the couch cushions (again), you’re not alone. I love summer—the slower pace, the barefoot afternoons, the spontaneous trips—but I also know how quickly routines slip away. And as a teacher, I’ve seen how just a little structure at home can make a huge difference for kids come fall.

That’s why I created the Smart at Home Learning Kit—a monthly bundle of no-prep, screen-free learning tools that help families support their kids’ growth and confidence in a way that feels relaxed, not rigid.

Let’s take a look inside the July kit so you can see how it works and how easy it is to use with your kids at home.

What Makes the July Kit Special?

July is that magical middle ground of summer—school is far enough behind us that routines are gone, but not so far off that we’ve given up on structure. That makes it the perfect time to gently reintroduce independent learning, curiosity, and connection—without turning your house into a classroom.

The July Smart at Home Kit centers around two big goals:

  • Life Skill Focus: Independence
  • Learning Skill Focus: Reading Stamina

The idea is to help your child practice doing things on their own, take ownership of their learning, and keep their reading muscles strong—all while still enjoying summer.

What’s Inside the July Smart at Home Learning Kit?

This month’s kit includes six ready-to-use pieces that you can mix and match throughout the month. Everything is printable, flexible, and made to work in real homes (no special materials, no printing overload, no elaborate prep).

Here’s what you’ll find inside:

1. July Reading Calendar

A full month of daily reading prompts that encourage your child to read in fun, unexpected ways. Each day gives them a different challenge—read with a flashlight, read to a stuffed animal, read nonfiction and share a fact. It’s perfect for building reading stamina without it feeling like “homework.”

🟡 Tip: Hang it on the fridge or tuck it into a clipboard. Let your child color in each box they complete.

2. Screen-Free Summer Bingo Board

This isn’t just any bingo board—it’s packed with thoughtful, creative, and active challenges that cover learning, life skills, movement, and connection. Think:

  • Try a new fruit or veggie
  • Sort and donate toys
  • Make a schedule for your day
  • Write a story
  • Learn five new words

Each square gives your child a chance to grow their independence, make decisions, and feel successful doing something meaningful.

🟡 Tip: Offer a small reward for 5 in a row or blackout—but honestly, many kids just love the satisfaction of checking things off!

3. Monthly Theme + Parent Introduction Page

This page gives you a short, clear overview of the life skill (independence) and learning focus (reading) for the month. You’ll also get suggestions for how to encourage independence at home—things like:

  • Letting your child pack their own bag for an outing
  • Asking them to take the lead on part of the morning routine
  • Encouraging them to set and track a summer goal

🟡 Tip: Choose one independence habit to focus on for the week and talk about it during dinner.

4. Conversation Cards

This month includes 10 summer-themed conversation starters that help build critical thinking, storytelling, and self-expression—all while strengthening your relationship.

Questions like:

  • What’s your dream summer day?
  • What’s something new you’d like to try?
  • What’s the best thing about being independent?

🟡 Tip: Print, cut, and keep in a jar on the table. Pull one at mealtime or during car rides.

5. Parent Notes + Extras Page

This page brings everything together and gives you ideas for:

  • How to use the calendar and bingo board together
  • Tips for encouraging independence
  • A short reading list for parents on raising confident, capable kids
  • Bonus book suggestions tied to this month’s theme

🟡 Tip: Use this page like your personal planning cheat sheet—pull one idea or tip each week.

6. Summer Bucket List (Bonus!)

This fun extra is perfect for dreaming big and planning small summer joys. Your child can fill it out on their own or with your help.

🟡 Tip: Post it somewhere visible and celebrate each item you check off!

How to Use the Kit at Home

This kit is totally flexible—you don’t need a daily schedule or a plan to use it well. Here are three simple ways families have used it:

The Morning Basket Method

Pick 1–2 items (a calendar prompt, a bingo square, or a conversation card) and do them together after breakfast.

Afternoon Wind-Down

Use the activities as part of quiet time or screen-free breaks. Reading prompts + a writing or drawing activity = 30 minutes of quiet creativity.

Dinner Table Connection

Conversation cards and bingo reflections make great dinner table starters. Ask what your child completed that day or what they want to try tomorrow.

❤From One Parent to Another…

I created this kit because I know what it’s like to want just a little more structure during the summer—without adding pressure or guilt. These are tools I’ve used at home with my own kids and in the classroom with students I love.

If your summer has been messy, loud, joyful, chaotic, or all of the above—you’re not doing it wrong. You’re doing it beautifully.

This kit is just here to support you with simple tools that help your child stay connected, confident, and curious all month long.
